 Mountjoy prison guard arrested for drug smuggling: "prison officer has been arrested after attempting to smuggle drugs into Mountjoy prison today.

The 39-year-old was taken into custody on his way to work this morning – stopped at the search entrance of the prison.

He was found to be in possession of a large quantity of drugs, some of which was found strapped to his leg.

This included 1lb of cannabis, as well as quantities of skunk, cocaine, heroin and prescription drugs.

In a statement, the Irish Prison service said that 'it is determined to clamp down on all avenues of drug trafficking into the prison.'"

He said that on Christmas Eve mass, held in the penitentiary’s main hall, Corby, along with another drug smuggler convict Renae Lawrance, mingled with 149 other convicts celebrating the holiday, until late night.
Corby is serving 20 years in prison for attempted smuggle of over 4 kilograms of marijuana."

The Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court sentenced Wu Zhijian Friday for leading a criminal gang, murder, kidnapping and drug and weapons offenses, officials told Xinhua, China's official news agency.

Three of his associates were sentenced to death with two-year reprieves, four received life sentences and 11 others were given prison terms of less than 20 years.

Prosecutors said Wu started producing and selling drugs with his fellow criminals in 2007. During the next year he bought firearms and ammunition to take over the regional drug trade."

As this newspaper reported yesterday, seven Filipinos have been caught smuggling drugs into Thailand so far this year. They are among 116 foreigners and eight Thais arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport so far this year for cross-border drug smuggling. An astounding 75 of the foreigners were Iranian. They account for nearly two-thirds of all arrests.
Iran has become Asia's biggest supplier of crystal methamphetamine. Known as ice, it is a particularly evil, addictive and mind-altering drug. Gangs inside Iran produce the ice, hire or coerce the 'mules' and send them off, particularly to Thailand.
Typically, these mules carry three or more kilogrammes, probably on the correct theory that there is no big legal difference between a small or large commercial quantity. As with the Filipinos caught in China, as with Thais caught in Latin America and China, the Iranian couriers caught in Thailand have no human value to the drug gangs. They are criminals, but they also are victims.
The smuggling of drugs into Thailand has exploded in just a few years. The biggest source is Burma, where the pill factories of strongly connected drug lords such as Wei Hsueh-kang churn out millions of tablets for China, India and especially Thailand."

One of the three targeted men was Eric Tullis, 20, who was among 15 men declared gang members in civil court in June, police said. Tullis had successfully evaded being served with his injunction, Oakland City Attorney John Russo said.
Tullis was treated for his injuries at a nearby hospital and released after the shooting. Later, he was arrested in Hayward, in possession of an illegal firearm, stolen property and $3,000 in cash, Russo said, and remained in jail Wednesday on $55,000 bail. He has now been served with his injunction and is therefore subject to curfew if he is released."

His sentencing was deferred until Dec. 14, Assistant Public Defender Charles Bailey said after the trial.
The jury acquitted Lindsay on charges of distribution of cocaine, criminal conspiracy to distribute cocaine and additional charges of possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia, court records said.
A confidential informant testified Wednesday that she told task force agents that she knew a man with the street name “Fresh,” who was selling cocaine and also had her mother-in-law’s laptop computer. Fresh wanted $300 before he would give the computer back, she testified.
Agent David Fortson testified that the informant was given $800 in marked bills, $500 of which was to be used to purchase cocaine. Fortson testified Fresh was Darnell Washington, 25, of Hagerstown, who was the target of the investigation."

18 Dominican military officials detained: "Authorities have detained 18 military officials and two U.S. pilots after stopping a cocaine-laden airplane from taking off, officials said Friday.
The small plane, a Short 360, was carrying 145 1-kilogram (2.2-pound) bricks of cocaine and was bound for Puerto Rico late Thursday, said Rolando Rosado Mateo, president of the National Drug Control Agency.
The officials detained include members of the drug control agency and airport security, along with a captain, three lieutenants and two lieutenant colonels.
He said agents also found $70,000 in cash inside a car that belongs to one official.
Rosado identified the pilots as Kevin Kuranz and Christopher Smith.
The plane's owner, Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based Air Cargo Carriers LLC, issued a statement saying it was cooperating with U.S. and Dominican authorities."

According to the grand jury, Carter traveled to Philadelphia to purchase bulk quantities of cocaine and heroin for re-sale in and around Blair County. Carter allegedly purchased enough cocaine to fill small freezer bags.
Carter’s Blair County drug associates included Jessica Cartwright, Marisa Moser, Eric Weyant, Tarah Mitchem and Ashley Hess. Brad Parks and his juvenile girlfriend were identified as the main Centre County distributors.
Corbett said some of these individuals developed their own clientele of street level users and supplied them with cocaine and heroin."

Suburban teacher held cocaine, police say - Chicago Sun-Times: "Kathleen M. Hebel, 33, of 5335 W. Agatite Ave., was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance, police said. She is a teacher at a school in River Grove, police said.
Friday night, Jefferson Park District Tactical team members were executing a search warrant at 4515 N. Mulligan Ave. and found her in the living room clenching her right fist, according to a police report.
From her fist, police recovered a small clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance that police believed was cocaine. Hebel was arrested at 8:11 p.m.
Krzeczkowski, who lives at the Mulligan address, was also arrested Friday night and charged with manufacturing and delivery of cocaine, manufacture and delivery of cannabis and possession of a controlled substance, the report said.
Krzeczkowski was the target of the search warrant, according to the report, which said the total value of the drugs he had was $7,600."

 "A known drug dealer who at one time evaded the possibility of a death sentence after a police informant set to testify against him and his father was killed was arrested early Saturday morning in a raid at his home.
Daniel Dean Smith, 39, was arrested around 7:30 a.m. at 6355 Murray Ridge Road after law enforcement officers from several agencies served him with a second-degree felony warrant for trafficking in cocaine. The raid concluded a three-month investigation by the Lorain Police Narcotics Bureau, which was aided in the investigation by the Lorain County Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The search warrant was executed by the Lorain County SWAT team. The lead detectives on this investigation were Lorain police Detectives Christopher Colon and A.J. Mathewson.
During a search of Smith’s home, approximately 17 ounces of cocaine - nearly half a kilo - and more than $2,000 in cash were seized. Police also confiscated two vehicles belonging to Smith, a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 and a 2005 Chrysler 300.
Police said Smith was selling drugs out of the Murray Ridge Road home and was using his personal vehicles to deliver drugs throughout the area.
Smith was taken to the Lorain City Jail pending his arraignment in Lorain Municipal Court. Additional charges will be sought against Smith when his case is presented to the Lorain County Grand Jury, said Lorain police Lt. Edward Super."
