Brazilian police say they have dismantled a criminal organization composed mostly of Serbians wanted by Interpol for international drug trafficking.
The Federal Police agency says in a statement that 16 suspected members of the gang were arrested between Sunday and Thursday in six states. Eight of those arrested are Serbian citizens.
It says the Serbian government has requested the extradition of the man suspected of leading the group. His identity was not revealed.
The operation concludes a two-year investigation that resulted in the arrests of 35 people, the seizure of 1,370 pounds (620 kilograms) of cocaine and the equivalent of $1.2 million.
